I had the privilege of receiving spiritual direction from Father Thomas for several years before moving back to Kentucky from California. He is authentic and gifted in guiding others in their relationship with the Lord.
God is always present to us. It is we who are not present to Him.
The Holy Scriptures are a gift of the Holy Spirit by which we can be awakened to Presence (the capital “P” is intentional).
By means of a phrase, image, word, person in the passage, and/or a reaction something generates, we can be awakened to presence. We can become present which always includes, by definition, receiving Presence and offering presence.
Here is a passage that accomplished that goal in my life as the dawn broke through the leafless trees of winter:
20 Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name.
22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us,
Just as we hope in You. (Psalm 33.20-22)
